CRTL Battle to Pass an Abortion-Neutral Fetal Homicide Law

January 2013 UPDATE: Rep. Janak Joshi introduced the identical single-sentence bill (see below) and it was killed in committee on a party-line 7-to-4 vote. After the hearing, CRTL joined with our allies Personhood Colorado and Heather Survoik in announcing the citizens initiative for the Brady Amendment to protect all unborn children. (Please see the Brady Project.)

July 2012 UPDATE: Colorado's abortion industry fights to prevent our prosecutors from seeking justice for the families of unborn children killed by criminals. While CRTL would never support a fetal homicide bill that affirms decriminalized abortion, we also have strongly supported the single-sentence abortion-neutral fetal crimes bill below. Colorado's three most high-profile cases where criminals have killed unborn children are:

Aurora 2012: Ashley Moser's unborn baby, the sibling to the youngest victim in the Aurora murders, has died
Longmont 2012: Heather Surovik's baby "Calling him a 'fetus' is offensive to our family."
Denver 2011: Lori Gorham's eight-month old baby was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Grand Junction 2007:  Lileigh Lehnen died an hour after she was born. Colorado courts rejected the murder charge but contradicted themselves, not surprising in our abortion-confused world, by upholding other charges including "child abuse leading to death". So, Lileigh was a child but not a person.

April 2012 UPDATE: CRTL's Proposed Unborn Victims of Crime Act was passed by the House but the Democratic-controlled State Senate tragically killed this single-sentence bill in committee:

"If the commission of any crime codified in this Title [18] or Title 42 of the Colorado Revised Statutes is the proximate cause of death or injury to an unborn member of the species Homo sapiens, the respective homicide and assault charges for that death or injury may be brought contemporaneously with the underlying charges."

No Need To Further Define "Unborn Member": Pro-abortion critics mock those advocating for protection for unborn children claiming that our laws would define skin cells, sperm, or even kidney stones as persons, but of course this is simply obfuscation. The above language sufficiently identifies the unborn child because only a child is eventually "born." Other organs or cells may be removed from the body but they are not "born." Only a child is "born." Thus an "unborn member" of the human family refers to the little person (biologically speaking, the organism) in mom's womb who eventually could be "born" unless miscarried (natural death) or killed (homicide). The Colorado 2012 Right To Life Amendment

Nov. 6,   2012 Update: Amendments don't lie. While politicians from all political parties often compromise and misrepresent themselves even on life and death matters, amendments, written on paper, don't reconsider; they don't change their mind; and they don't don't lie. The Colorado Personhood Coalition has filed suit as explained in the following press release in an effort to gain ballot access in 2014 using the signatures we've collected in 2012. Please pray for this effort and that God will help us raise up leaders who have the courage to support personhood. Stealth pro-life candidates, like soldiers scared to death to show their face in a fight, are less an asset that a cowardly drain of resources. So please, as Jesus Christ condemned cowardice and praised courage, pray for boldness for yourself and all those who would protect the innocent!

Colorado Personhood Coalition Files Suit

Sept. 27 , 2012: The Colorado Personhood Coalition has filed suit in Denver today, after an unjust dismissal by the Secretary of State’s office.

An unsuccessful lawsuit from Planned Parenthood shortened the petitioning time by about 60 days, giving the Colorado Personhood Coalition fewer petitioning days than any other Colorado ballot initiative. In spite of this, the Personhood Coalition collected over 112,000 signatures, about 30,000 more than signatures collected in 2010.

Other initiatives were also granted a 15 day curing period to make up lost or invalidated signatures, which the Colorado Personhood Coalition was denied. After turning in far more than the number of signatures required for ballot placement, the Secretary of State’s office determined that the amendment could not appear on the ballot, discounting over 6,800 registered voters’ signatures.

'The Secretary of State’s actions unconstitutionally deprived us of our fundamental right under the State and Federal Constitutions to the initiative process which is core political speech," explained Gualberto Garcia Jones, J.D., legal analyst for Personhood USA. "After being denied the same time frame that every other initiative received, and denied the opportunity to appear on the ballot, we have filed a writ of mandamus to ensure that our rights are recognized and the hard work of our volunteers is not dismissed."

The Colorado Personhood Coalition’s language is different than any other in the nation, addressing a myriad of issues in detail that have never before been explored, including birth control, IVF, miscarriage, and rape.

The full language is just below: ColoradoRTL.org/2012-wording#text.

"Our nearly 1,500 volunteers worked incredibly hard," commented Susan Sutherland, Director of the Colorado Personhood Coalition. "Despite the odds, we did the work and got the signatures. We deserve to be on the ballot, and we will not quit until every signature is counted and ultimately, every innocent human life is protected in Colorado."

Pepsi: Aborted Baby Cells in Drink Research

PRO-LIFE VICTORY: PEPSI BOYCOTT ENDED!

PepsiCo has ceased their fetal cell research and recently publicized this policy: "PepsiCo does not conduct or fund research that utilizes any human tissue or cell lines derived from embryos or fetuses."

Further, Pepsi VP of Global Public Policy, Paul Boykas,
wrote that, “Senomyx will not use HEK cells or any other tissues or cell lines derived from human embryos or fetuses for research performed on behalf of PepsiCo.”

“We are absolutely thrilled with PepsiCo’s decision,” stated Debi Vinnedge, boycott organizer with Children of God for Life on April 30, 2012. “They have listened to their customers and have made both a wise and profound statement of corporate integrity that deserves the utmost respect, admiration and support of the public.” CRTL thanks Debi Vinnedge and our Vice President Leslie Hanks agreed: "Colorado Right To Life appreciates PepsiCo for their policy prohibiting the grisly practice of using tissue from aborted children." Hanks added, "No responsible corporation should ever violate this PepsiCo policy."

FOR ARCHIVAL PURPOSES ONLY:

Coke & Campbell's Pull Out: Pepsi Digs In: Debi Vinnedge, executive director of Florida's Children of God for Life, in exposing another abortion horror, has convinced Campbell's Soups to immediately end their taste testing research using aborted baby cells. Coca-Cola, though never contacting Vinnedge, also ended their relationship with Senomyx, the biotech company conducting the flavor-enhancing research using an aborted baby's kidney cells to produce "human taste receptors". When new drink ingredients are put in contact with these cells, researchers note whether or not the cells produce certain protein reactions. (The same research can be done ethically using adult stem cells and in other ways.)

Colorado Gov. John Love Signs First Liberalized Abortion Law: 45 years ago today

Denver, April 25, 1967, 2007 -- Governor John A. Love of Colorado signs the first liberalized abortion law (based upon a model created by the American Law Institute) in the United States, allowing abortion in cases of permanent mental or physical disability of either the child or mother or in cases of rape or incest. This amended Colorado law on abortion has been on the books for over 100 years.

Similar laws will soon be passed in California, Oregon, and North Carolina. According to Governor Love, "The new law does several things. First it extends beyond the possible death of the woman or her serious physical injury to include mental impairment of a serious and permanent nature when verified by a psychiatrist. It also extends to cases in which it is likely that the child would have a grave and permanent physical deformity or mental retardation.

Finally it extends to certain cases of rape and incest. ... The bill itself is completely permissive, not requiring any hospital, doctor, nurse, potential mother or any other person to act in any way to terminate a pregnancy at any time."

Early in the legislative session, Governor Love reportedly said that easing abortion restrictions "sounds like something I can support." Now, however, he says: "The action of the Legislature in passing a bill which seeks to amend Colorado law in regard to the legal termination of certain pregnancies has presented to me one of the more important and difficult decisions of my experience in office."

Leonard Carlin, president of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Denver, says "My impression was that he was one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the bill."

Here is Focus on the Strategy II, filmed at the capitol at CRTL's Forty Years in the Wilderness event, forty years later to the day in the same Supreme Court chambers where Gov. Love signed Colorado's first law liberalizing child killing:

In the above video, you'll learn how to do your part to restore the pro-life movement and to end America's "legalized" child killing. Focus II has cameo appearances from CRTL friends including Notre Dame law professor Charles Rice, Ambassador Alan Keyes, Life Dynamic's Mark Crutcher, American Life League president Judie Brown, our former president Columbine dad Brian Rohrbough, and founding board member of Nat'l RTL and Americans United for Life John Archibold. And hear a Focus on the Family staff member, Salem radio host Hugh Hewitt, LifeNews publisher Steve Ertelt, talk host Laura Ingraham and Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol, and finally, Dr. James Dobson, all revealing the most shocking truths.

2012 Caucus Personhood Resolution

PLEASE BRING THIS RESOLUTION TO YOUR CAUCUS ON TUESDAY

First find the location of your neighborhood caucus meeting and attend it on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Then, when the chairman ask if anyone has a resolution to offer, simply provide him with a printout of this resolution, and you can read the single sentence to the group yourself if you'd like:

Personhood Resolution

Be it resolved that we support the Colorado
Personhood Amendment effort to protect
the unborn child at every stage of development.

Depending upon your precinct process, you or someone may make a motion to vote on your resolution, and a second person may have to second the motion, and then there may be discussion. Let your neighbors know that if the measure is passed, the personhood and right to life of preborn babies will be restored. (See also, Colorado RTL's Personhood Campaign Talking Points).

In the last two elections, our resolution passed at hundreds of caucuses statewide, and if it passes now in yours, we want to make sure that it is voted on at the county assembly! Then as it is likely that it will pass there, it will go on for consideration at the state party assembly where it will almost certainly pass and become part of the state party platform! So by Wednesday morning, Feb. 8th, please email us at office@ColoradoRTL.org and let us know if your caucus adopted the resolution, and if you'd like, you can also tell your county party chairman or resolution committee, and confirm that they will be introducing the personhood resolution at the county level.

Finally, you may want to enter your name to be a delegate for your county assembly where you can continue to exert influence to protect unborn children!

May God bless your efforts!

Pro-Aborts Pay Restitution to CRTL

One of our truth truck banners was stolen at our annual CRTL Banquet by someone who wanted our message silenced. Our banner with Margaret Sanger's quote, "We don't want the word out that we want to exterminate the Negro population," was removed by someone obviously sympathetic to Planned Parenthood. CRTL persued justice in this case and received full four-fold restitution as described in God's Word for stolen goods that are destroyed (Exodus 22:1)...

American RTL Unfurled DNC Sheets Of Shame

DENVER, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- An official Guinness Book of World RecordsTM attempt to display the largest ever protest sign has succeeded. The 530-foot tall and 666-foot wide message is being shouted from the mountaintops overlooking the Democratic National Convention with the leading 2008 protest message.

Depending on their location, thousands of DNC delegates and journalists can look out their hotel windows to the west to see the sign. Sponsored by American RTL Action, the message initially appeared with three enormous 160-foot tall, bright yellow letters, D-N-C, stacked on top of each other.

After those letters suddenly appeared on a mountain just west of Denver, the actual full message of the sign began to unfurl. Three lines of white text, built on the vertical yellow letters read, D-N-C:

Destroys
uNborn
Children

"The tiniest boys and girls should be loved and protected," said American RTL Action president Steve Curtis, "but as nominating Barack Obama emphasizes, the DNC even supports killing kids in the womb old enough to know their mother's voice, sleep and dream, suck their thumbs, and play with their toes."
